State news said the Syrian regime's air defense system has shot down a US drone Tuesday.
SANA said a US surveillance plane was brought down in northern Latakia but provided no further details. A Pentagon official confirmed they lost contact with the Predator drone, but it was unclear whether it had been shot, The Los Angeles Times reported.
If confirmed it would be the first time Syria has attacked a US aircraft, BBC said, since the coalition began its airstrikes against Daesh (ISIS).
The EU said Monday that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad could not be a partner in the fight against the militant group.
