At least five people were killed and more than 50 wounded in a suicide bomb attack in the parking lot outside the Afghan justice ministry Tuesday, AFP reported.

Kabul police spokesman Ebadullah Karimi told AFP the bomber detonated his car laden with explosives during rush hour in the center of the city. The health ministry said 53 people have been brought to hospitals. It was unclear whether one of the deaths was the attacker.

Deputy Interior Minister Mohammed Ayoub Salangi said four men and one woman were killed.

"The body of one of the victims was torn into pieces and we cannot verify if he was the suicide attacker," Salangi said.

In a recent statement the UN said civilian casualties in Afghanistan have jumped 16 percent over the same period last year, AFP reported.
