Home-made bombs set by armed Islamic extremists wounded nine people Saturday in the Algerian capital, in the latest attacks of their kind since November after a lull of almost two years.
The bombs exploded shortly after 8:00 am (local time) close to bus stops in the center of the Birkhadem district on the southern outskirts of Algiers, a security official said.
The emergency services and security forces rushed to the scene, where nine people had been wounded, one of them seriously, according to the official.
The past five months have seen a renewal of bomb attacks in Algiers itself, which both the authorities and the press blame on the Armed Islamic Group (GIA), one of the two radical movements fighting the secular government, according to AFP. (Albawaba.com)
