ALBAWABA - A militant overnight attack on a military post in Chad resulted in the killing of at least 40 people, near the Nigerian borders, a government source told AFP.
"A garrison housing more than 200 soldiers was targeted by members of Boko Haram late on Sunday in the west of the country, in an attack that tragically left about 40 people dead", the Chadian presidency said in a statement.
Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno visited the scene early on Monday and launched an operation "to go after the attackers and track them down in their furthest hideouts", the statement added.
Local news outlets reported that the militants took control of a military garrison in addition to seizing weaponry and heavy arms in the area and setting vehicles ablaze.
