Blue Coat Delivers Live and On-Demand Video to Web Viewers for China Central Television
Primary Broadcaster in China Uses Blue Coat Appliances to Reach Large Audiences with Video Coverage of Lunar Landing, 2008 Olympics and More

Dubai- March 12th, 2008 – Blue Coat Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: BCSI), the leader in WAN Application Delivery and Secure Web Gateway, today announced that CCTV.com, the official website of China Central Television (CCTV), the primary broadcaster in the People’s Republic of China, has deployed Blue Coat® ProxySG® appliances to optimize the delivery of on-demand and live video programs to large numbers of viewers on the Web. In addition, Blue Coat appliances deliver other Web content and protect the television broadcaster’s Web and video servers.

Using Blue Coat appliances, CCTV already has been able to meet the demands of its growing Web audience for online delivery of important television programming, including coverage of the 17th CPC National Congress and the Chang’e-1 lunar exploration program. ProxySG appliances enable CCTV to reach more viewers simultaneously by offloading their internal video servers and presenting cached video directly.   CCTV also anticipates that the appliances will help meet the demands from a large global audience of Web viewers for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.  CCTV.com is the authorized online broadcaster for the event.

“Blue Coat appliances have helped us reach a worldwide audience with crucial television coverage of important events,” said Mr. Wang Wenbin, general manager of CCTV.com. “As we prepare for the 2008 Olympics, we believe we can efficiently and effectively treat viewers around the world to a brilliant visual banquet of the game’s pageantry and soaring human achievements.”

CCTV has deployed Blue Coat ProxySG appliances at its network centers in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu to serve on-demand and live streaming video, as well as Web content, to viewers. CCTV manages the appliances centrally from its network operation center in Beijing.

“We are proud to play such an important role in helping CCTV reach large audiences with crucial and historic video programming,” said Matt Young, vice president, Asia Pacific, Blue Coat Systems. “Blue Coat ProxySG appliances are designed from the ground up to protect, control and accelerate video and other demanding applications and Web content.”
