Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak left for Egypt on Thursday in a bid to push peace efforts with the Palestinians after the failed Camp David summit.

Barak will brief Mubarak on the summit at a meeting at the presidential palace in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria at 12:30 p.m. (0930 GMT), Barak's office said.

He had originally planned to see Mubarak last Friday following the collapse of the summit over the thorny issue of Jerusalem, but postponed his trip for "technical reasons."

His visit follows on the heels of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, who met Mubarak and other Egyptian officials Wednesday on the last leg of a tour of Arab nations -- BEN GURION AIRPORT, Israel (AFP)
