Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak has declared that the public should not overreact to reports that Iranian interests are plotting to blow up multi-story building in major cities in Israel.
Speaking to the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Security Committee on Monday, Barak confirmed that the Israeli security services are investigating reports that Iran is encouraging a resumption of bombing attacks against civilians in the country's main population centers, and against high-rise buildings in particular.
"We are carefully instigating all warnings, and a concerted effort is being made [to combat the problem] with intelligence services from other countries," Barak told the committee members. "We already have experienced difficult times, and I suggest that people do not become overwrought by this thing."
Israel Radio said Sunday that Intelligence sources reported to the cabinet that “Iran was said to be sending foreign citizens to carry out suicide missions in Israel,” and the they will try to perform sensational terrorist acts,
”The foreign citizens have been instructed to carry out mass bombings and to try to blow up towers and large complexes inside Israel,” according to the report.
During the meeting Barak also said that Palestinian President Yasser Arafat appeared now to be making a more concerted effort to calm the situation in the Palestinian territories, but this is not yet evident on the ground. - Albawaba.com
