Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh on Saturday appointed the foreign minister, Abdul Kader Bajammal, to form a new government, reported Al-Jazeera satellite channel.

Bajammal, who was also deputy premier, takes over from the current prime minister, Abdul Karim al-Iryani, who asked to step down for health reasons.Bajammal was one of five candidates for the post of prime minister in the new government, said AFP.

Yemen's last cabinet reshuffle dates back to May 1998 when Iryani formed a government made up almost entirely of members of Saleh's ruling party, the General People's Congress – Albawaba.com
