A European firm on Saturday signed an agreement with the Bahrain Export Development Society (BEDS) to begin applying universal barcodes to locally-manufactured products, reported the Gulf Daily News.
The Dutch-based company, Article Numbering International (EAN), is the world’s leading barcoding firm, has a global multi-industry system of identification and communication for products, services and locations, said the paper.
The agreement is a “breakthrough for Bahraini exporters because it will allow their goods easier access to the European Union (EU) and beyond,” said BEDS chairman, Yousef Mashal.
He described the new system as revolutionary, saying Bahrain’s barcode network would be up and running by early September – Albawaba.com
