A new policy of selling off unwanted government land at half-price has led to a rush of applications for property expansions. According to the GDN, the government has received 342 applications between December 2005 and February 2006 alone from people looking to make the most of the cheap land offer.

Strips of land in front of or between houses, which are deemed unusable for government projects, are up for grabs.
