Bahrain has issued a new law for granting tenders in the Gulf state, reported the Gulf Daily News.

“Transparency, equal opportunities and fair competition will be the guidelines when tenders are granted in Bahrain in future,” the cabinet said in a statement, cited by the paper.

“All bidders or their representatives will be invited to be present when the results of the tenders are announced,” it said.

Works Minister Fahim Al Jowder submitted a report outlining details of the new law.

Jowder also spoke about the new tenders council which would be affiliated to the cabinet. He highlighted its membership regulations, powers, responsibilities and decision-making procedures.

The new law details a complaints procedure and specifies penalties which will be taken against suppliers and entrepreneurs who fail to abide by the rules. Government officials will not be eligible to bid for tenders, the paper said -- Albawaba.com
