At least seven people have been killed and more than 20 others injured in a bomb explosion claimed by Daesh in Baghdad.

The attack was carried out on Tuesday in Baghdad’s Tayaran Square when a Takfiri assailant blew up his explosives at a gathering of workers.

According to security and medical officials, at least 22 people suffered injuries in the attack.

Daesh claimed responsibility for the deadly blast in an online statement.

Tuesday’s explosion came after a similar attack by Daesh killed more than 40 people and injured dozens of others on Friday during a match in a small stadium in the city of Iskandariyah, about 30 miles south of Baghdad.

Daesh has been dealt major blows by Iraqi forces over the past months. The militants have launched several high-profile attacks targeting civilians in the wake of the defeats.

Violence has plagued the northern and western parts of Iraq ever since Daesh launched an offensive in June 2014, and took control of portions of the Iraqi territory.

The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq recently announced that a total of 670 Iraqis were killed and 1,290 others injured in acts of violence and armed conflict in February.
