Axis Communications, the global leader in network video,1 strengthens its network video camera portfolio by introducing Active Tampering Alarm. Active Tampering Alarm is an intelligent feature in network cameras that enables security staff to detect disrupted camera operation, by automatically alerting the operator when a camera is re-directed, blocked or manipulated.

Gilles Ortega, country manager, of Axis Communications, MENA , commented, “Active Tampering Alarm in network cameras is especially useful in applications where there is potential for vandalism – such as in schools, prisons, public transportation, and in harsh environments where weather, vibrations, or dirt can disturb the camera’s performance. Active Tampering Alarm detects incidents such as accidental redirection, blocking or de-focusing of cameras, and reacts when the camera is attacked, spray-painted, or intentionally covered.”

Helps security staff to quickly identify camera disruption
Without Active Tampering Alarm, it can take a long time before tampering is noticed. This is especially true for applications where one operator monitors multiple cameras. “If it is not detected right away, significant incidents may go undetected and completely unusable video is stored,” says Gilles Ortega. “Thanks to Active Tampering Alarm, there is an immediate notification when normal camera operation is disturbed.”

Adding intelligence to network cameras
“Axis’ network cameras and video encoders provide built-in video analytics that are easy to set up and robust,” continues Gilles Ortega. “Together with capabilities such as video motion detection and audio detection, Active Tampering Alarm supports security operators in their daily work by solving real-world video surveillance challenges. Furthermore, since the functionality resides embedded in the network camera, it ensures an ease-of-use and scalability that cannot be achieved with analog camera technology.”

Active Tampering Alarm is available now in selected network cameras from Axis. For more information, please visit http://www.axis.com/iv/.
