The president of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, and his Syrian counterpart Bashar Assad discussed the Middle East peace process during talks in Abu Dhabi, the Emirati news agency (WAM) reported.

The two leaders, said WAM, reviewed developments, and stressed the need for all possible efforts to reactivate the peace process on all tracks, with a view to finding a fair and permanent peace in the Middle East.

Assad also congratulated Sheikh Zayed on his recovery after a kidney transplant.

Sheikh Zayed, 82, founder of the UAE, returned to Abu Dhabi in November after a kidney transplant in August in Cleveland, USA.
