Dell today further extended its commitment to customers with the introduction of Vostro, a comprehensive portfolio of notebook and desktop computers, dedicated services and a new microsite designed specifically for small businesses. The new Vostro products feature simple-to-use tools that address top of mind problems like data back-up and PC performance and health, no unwanted trialware and specialised technical support for customers without dedicated IT staff.
The Vostro (Latin for “yours”) product and services family is a milestone in Dell’s ongoing commitment to small business and the company’s strategy to reduce the cost, time and complexity of managing IT for these customers.
“Vostro changes the game by empowering small business owners to choose the exact IT solutions they need to be successful,” Dell Chairman and CEO Michael Dell told customers at a town hall today in New York, which was held in conjunction with the launch events in the UK, France and Germany. “For too long, entrepreneurs have been forced to fit consumer or large corporate solutions into their unique environments.”
Small Business Customers Have Been Heard
According to a 12-country survey of small business owners and decision makers conducted by Dell and the International Council for Small Business1, 94 per cent of companies in the UK, France and Germany say their most sophisticated IT equipment is worth every penny they pay to buy and maintain it, yet budget constraints are the top factor limiting these businesses’ ability to expand their infrastructure.
Additional findings from small business owners across Europe include:
• The top two reasons small businesses use technology is to better serve customers and grow the business, with 65 percent saying IT is extremely important to their business;
• Eliminating trialware and setting up new systems are the top frustrations with IT purchasing, with almost two thirds of businesses installing their most sophisticated technology equipment themselves;
• Ensuring the security of company data is #1 on the list of recommended actions for IT vendors, followed closely by providing adequate technical support and service.
Significantly, small business owners worldwide say they want the same thing: business-class offerings that are simple, less costly and backed by reliable service.
“Small businesses throughout Europe face the challenge of choosing the right IT solutions to meet their specific needs,” said Aongus Hegarty, Vice President and General Manager, Home and Small Business, Dell EMEA.  “At Dell, our goal is to simplify this process and offer the guidance necessary for customers to make informed technology decisions that will best benefit their business, as well as offer continuous IT support throughout the life of their infrastructure and beyond.”

Customised, Automated, Easy-to-Use Tools
Regardless of geography, small businesses say tools to help them complete common, time-consuming tasks associated with backing up data and optimising system performance, and easy support options rank among their top IT needs.
Vostro offers automated support tools customised for small business, which include Dell DataSafe™ Online for online backup of up to 30GB of user data that protects against data loss resulting from disasters, theft or damage; Dell Support Centre, enabling access to online support information; Dell Network Assistant, which simplifies the set-up, monitoring, troubleshooting and repair of a customer’s network and Dell Automated PC Tune-Up2, which reduces more than 30 tuning, security and maintenance tasks to one click to help ensure top performance.

End-to-End Focus on Small Business
Dell has invested more than 35,000 person-hours in specialised sales, technical support and customer service training as well as developed online resources to help small business owners get the most out of their IT experience.
At www.smartbusinessIT.co.uk or www.dell.com/me , customers can find a small business resource centre created in partnership with Intel that offers advice on investing in technology equipment based on specific business challenges.
Designed for a simple network and businesses with fewer than 10 employees, Vostro offerings that will be available in the Middle East in late August include:
• Notebooks: Vostro 1000, 1400, 1500 and 1700
