ALBAWABA - With Armenia's announcement on Friday, the State of Palestine has gained formal recognition by 148 nations out of the 193 members of the United Nations.

According to Routers, the UN resolution urging an immediate ceasefire in Gaza was endorsed by the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement. Armenia's support for a two-state solution as the only workable way for Israelis and Palestinians to realize their rightful goals was also reaffirmed in the statement.

The State of Palestine was also recognized by Slovenia, Spain, Norway, and Ireland last month; Tel Aviv denounced this development. Israel summoned its ambassadors from such nations after characterizing these recognitions as a gift to Hamas. The Palestinian Authority, on the other hand, and other Palestinian groups welcomed the recognitions.

Furthermore, there have been recent indications of possible intentions by the UK, Australia, Malta, and Slovenia to recognize the State of Palestine. However, the United States continues to oppose Palestine's attempts to become a full member of the UN in the Security Council.
