Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat said Tuesday that the continued unrest in the Palestinian territories was against the ceasefire accord agreed at the Middle East summit in Egypt.

Asked about an "Israeli escalation" in violence in the West Bank, where a Palestinian was shot dead by Jewish settlers and several more wounded in clashes with Israeli troops he said: "all this is against the accord."

"There will be an international commission which will monitor the situation," he said on his arrival in Gaza from Egypt where the United States brokered an accord to end almost three weeks of bloodletting.

"The most important thing is implementation of the accord which we want to be to the letter," he added - GAZA CITY (AFP)
