Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat congratulated US president-elect George W. Bush on Thursday and asked him for Washington's support of "international protection" of the Palestinians.
In a message sent to Bush, Arafat said the Palestinians "continue to aspire to a peace of the brave despite the aggression they are suffering" at the hands of Israel, the Palestinians' official news agency WAFA said.
"We are waiting for you to put an end to the war against us and assure international protection," Arafat said.
Some 328 people, most Palestinians, have been killed since violence broke out in the Middle East in late September -- GAZA CITY (AFP)
