The Qatari capital, Doha, has been named as the Grade One winner of the Safety Award in the Environmental Health Awards category, instituted by the Arab Towns Organization (ATO), Gulf Times reported on Sunday.
The awards were announced at a ceremony held at the ATO Awards Committee's permanent office in Doha on Saturday, inaugurated by Abdulrahman Ali al-Boinain, chairman of the higher administrative committee of the ATO Awards.
There were four nominations in the safety category. The other three were Tilmisan in Algeria, Hebron in Palestine and Damascus, Syria, according to the paper.
Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi was chosen for the grade one in the environment awareness category; Sharjah was given the Grade Two and the city of Tilmisan the Grade Three award.
The report added that there were eight nominations in this category. The others were Qadisiya (Iraq), Manama (Bahrain), Tripoli (Libya), and the Palestinian towns of Hebron and Jericho.
