Arab and Egyptian Human Rights organizations have called for lifting the unjust embargo off Iraq, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA). The organizations consider the continuation of the embargo a “flagrant violation” of human rights.
In statements to an INA reporter in Cairo, Secretary General of the Arab Organization of Human Rights Mohammed Fai'q and Secretary General of the Egyptian Organization of Human Rights Hafidh Abou Sa'da affirmed the legal right to lift the embargo since Iraq had implemented all its obligations.
Fa'iq referred to the “devastating impact of the unjust embargo”, which affects the Iraqi people. He described the embargo as a violation of all international laws and added that the prime goal is to end the embargo and not to find new ideas to perpetuate it.
On his part, Abou Sa'da condemned the U.S double-standard policy against Iraq in implementing resolutions. He said the continuation of the embargo on Baghdad was considered a blatant violation of human rights, the News Agency added.
