The Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR) hailed on Tuesday the Kuwaiti National Assembly's (Parliament) decision to amend elections law, granting women their full political rights.
The organization said in a statement that this victory for women came after a long strife during which the Kuwaiti women proved their "vital role in the social, cultural and economic domains." The organization praised the government's persistence to submit this law to the parliament despite previous failures.
The statements of the Kuwaiti Premier, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al- Sabah were also welcomed by the organization, during which he declared his intention to name a women minister soon.
The organization congratulated the Kuwaiti government, parliament and women for this "historic" accomplishment, hoping that women in the other Gulf states are granted their political rights.
