Anti-globalization hackers managed to steal confidential data, including credit card numbers, from the rich and powerful attending last week's World Economic Forum in Davos, the weekly SonntagsZeitung reported on Sunday.

The hackers sent a computer disk containing such information as credit card numbers and their expiry date, cell phone numbers and private addresses to the newspaper, which was able to confirm the accuracy of the data with some of the persons concerned.

Among the names on the list were Bernard Arnault of the luxury giant LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy), Bill Gates of Microsoft, Bill Clinton, Yasser Arafat and Jean-Marie Messier of French media conglomerate Vivendi Universal.

The newspaper alerted the WEF, which has informed the appropriate authorities who from Monday will personally contact the 1,400 people on the list -- ZURICH (AFP)
