Egypt’s supreme council of antiquities (SCA) will soon start a restoration plan to save the minaret of Aidmer Al Bahlawan Mosque at Al Hussein area in Cairo, from collapsing.
The mosque that dates back to the Mameluke era was established by a well-off merchant, reported Egypt Online.
During regular inspection tours of monuments in Al Hussein area, Secretary General of the SCA noticed that the minaret of the mosque slants by 58 mm from the vertical axis, and is thus liable to collapse in the case of any ground disorder.
The minaret rises about 2l.38 meters from the ground level and about l5 meters above the mosque.
The restoration will be implemented on phases to support and fix the minaret and restore colors and patterns around it, and on the walls and ceiling of the mosque itself, said the news service – Albawaba.com
