In a spirit of environmental support for Bahrain, 36 volunteers from American Express Middle East participated in a beach clean up drive to mark the International Clean up Day in Hawar Island yesterday. This community effort was organized by the Aquatic World Awareness Responsibility & Education (AWARE), as part of a global effort to help protect underwater environments and spread awareness of a cleaner natural habitat.

Mohamed Danish, Human Resources Director for American Express Middle East and North Africa said: “Our participation in this drive is a reflection of American Express’ commitment to the local community in Bahrain. We believe that supporting such an environmental cause is an important part of contributing to the
socio-economic prosperity of Bahrain.  We are happy that this provided us an enriching experience, working hand in hand with other volunteers dedicated to making our community a better place to live.”

The International Clean Up Day witnessed over 300,000 volunteers, including divers and shoreline participants of all ages, in more than 100 countries participating in clean up activities with an estimated 3.6 million kilograms of debris cleared off the shores across the world.
