Spanish minnows Alaves continued the strengthening of their squad for next season's domestic championship and UEFA Cup debut when they signed Yugoslav midfielder Ivan Tomic on loan from Serie A giants AS Roma.
The 24-year-old, who joined Roma from Partizan Belgrade in 1998 for $4.5 million, failed to impress in the Italian capital and was never a first-team regular.
Alaves, who finished a surprise sixth in last season's title race, have already signed eight players in the off-season notably Croatian Vlatko Djolonga and Jordi Cruyff son of Dutch legend Johann - (AFP)
