The Jordanian weekly Al-Sabeel said a Jordanian soldier launched the attack on the Israeli military patrol in the border area September 13. Israeli sources said two soldiers were wounded in the attack. Al-Sabeel, quoting informed sources identified the soldier as Maher Rasmi El-Bourini, a resident of Sakeb village. According to the sources, the soldier was arrested two days later and is being questioned by investigators.
His relatives were quoted by the newspaper as saying two Israeli soldiers were killed in the attack which they said was initiated by the patrol drawing retaliatory fire from the soldier Maher.
Jordan’s minister of information, Taleb Rifai, told reporters last Wednesday that an investigation into the shooting incident was continuing and hinted at the possibility that the source of fire may not have originated from the Jordanian side of the border.
