Head of Sunni militant organization Al Qaeda Ayman al Zawahiri called on jihadists fighting in the Syrian civil war to unite.
The message, which is more than five minutes long, was posted online on militant websites, according to CNN, who could not independently verify its authenticity.
In his message, the Al Qaeda leader calls upon all jihadi factions taking part in the nearly three-year-old conflict to end the infighting between the rebels.
"Our hearts are bleeding, the heart of our Islamic nation is bleeding when we see the internal strife among the mujahedeen in Syria," according to CNN.
Zawahiri also urged all jihadist groups and "every free person in Syria seeking to overthrow (President Bashar) al-Assad to seek an end to fighting between brothers in jihad and Islam immediately," in the recording uploaded on YouTube late on Wednesday, according to Agence France Presse.
Of Egyptian nationality, Zawahiri has been leader of Al Qaeda since 2009, according to U.S. intelligence.
