A year after the three Al Jazeera journalists' first court appearance, the Cairo Criminal Court postponed the first session and released all defendants with a retrial still pending, Ahram Online reported.
Judges ordered the release of Egyptian-Canadian Al-Jazeera journalist Mohamed Fahmy on a $33,000 bail. The rest of the defendants were released without bail.
Al Jazeera journalists Fahmy, Peter Greste, and Baher Mohamed were imprisoned in June after they were charged with conspiring against President Mohammad Morsi, collaborating with the Muslim Brotherhood and spreading false news. They were arrested in their hotels and homes in December 2013.
The journalists denied any plans and said they were arrested simply for reporting the news.
Cairo's court granted a retrial shortly after heightened media attention on the journalists — and hashtags #FreeAJstaff and #journalismisnotacrime grew popular.
Greste was released and returned to Australia in February while his two colleagues remained behind bars.
