ALBAWABA - The Sudanese army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, is accused of using chemical weapons during clashes with paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in 2024.
The United States revealed last Thursday that it intends to impose sanctions on Sudan after determining that the government forces used chemical weapons in 2024.
The accusations of using chemical weapons during the ongoing conflict with the RSF were denied by the Sudanese army.
US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said that the Trump government will be limiting US exports and US government lines of credit due to the use of chemical weapons.
He added in a statement that the decision will take effect by around June 6, saying, “The United States calls on the Government of Sudan to cease all chemical weapons use and uphold its obligations under the CWC."
The Sudanese war broke out between the armed forces, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces, led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, on April 15, 2023.
