ADC Signs Agreement with Jordan River Foundation to Introduce Safe Schools Program to Aqaba

The Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) signed an agreement with the Jordan River Foundation (JRF) to implement the Safe Schools Program at the two schools that ADC has officially sponsored and adopted, which include Abu Ayyoub Al Ansari School for Boys in the Old Town and Khawlah bint Al Azwar School for girls in Salaheddin.

The agreement was signed by ADC CEO Eng. Imad Fakhoury and JRF Director General Valentina Qussisiya. The signing ceremony was also attended by Chief Commissioner of ASEZA Eng. Husni Abu Ghaida.

The Safe Schools Program builds on Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah’s visit to the Old Town in April of last year and as a result of the comprehensive study conducted by JRF, which revealed that the Old Town is in dire need for a development center that primarily focuses on women, children and social awareness issues.

Eng. Fakhoury stated, “In line with Her Majesty Queen Rania’s directives, we will be implementing the Safe Schools Program at Abu Ayyoub Al Ansari School for Boys and Khawlah bint Al Azwar School for girls because we have witnessed the success of the program at several other schools.  The Safe Schools Program is a comprehensive program that aims at enhancing the level of education by creating a safe environment for children and implementing the program’s objectives through training and incentive programs specifically for the staff members. “

Director General Qussisiya stated, “The Safe Schools Program aims at providing a comfortable and secure learning environment that protects children from any kind of ill-treatment and neglect, as well as raises the awareness of teachers and parents on child abuse and children’s’ rights. The program also aims at ensuring that teachers refrain from any kind of violence and teaches them that educational tools is an effective form of discipline that should be tailored to suit the student based on his/her needs and age. We look forward to seeing this project enhance the partnership and communication between schools, homes and the local community”.
ADC and ASEZA previously signed two agreements with the JRF to fund activities and programs at the Queen Rania Al Abdullah Center for Community Empowerment, which will be established in the Salaheddin area and will also serve women and children in Aqaba.
