During a recent meeting of Abu Dhabi University’s Al-Ain Campus Advisory Board, a number of academic and strategic issues concerning the university and its Vision 2013 were discussed. ADU’s Vision 2013 aims at having ADU recognized as a national university of choice for quality education. It also encompasses a focus on applied research that will drive regional economic development, and envisages international accreditation for the university.
Dr. Ali Azad, the Al-Ain Campus Director, stated that the Advisory Board for the Al-Ain Campus was formed in accordance with the instructions of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, and President of Abu Dhabi University Board of Trustees, to provide the management of ADU with timely and insightful ideas on the strategic issues related to the ADU Al-Ain campus. The Al-Ain Campus Advisory Board consists of a selection of prominent individuals known for their high profile roles in the community, with members representing a wide cross-section of Al-Ain’s economic, social, and government sectors. The Board members are all working with Abu Dhabi University to ensure that students graduate with the skills required by the community.
Dr. Azad explained that the Advisory Board is committed to address trends in business and national development and in doing so to accommodate the needs of the ADU stakeholders and clients. It will also advise on areas such as the effectiveness of ADU’s strategic planning, the making of policies, organizational management, quality assurance and the effectiveness of financial issues.
The Advisory Board inculcated the implementation of the strategic plan by focusing on the sustainable growth of Al-Ain Campus, placing an emphasis on graduate education and applied research, seeking government support, making progress toward international accreditation, and continuing the expansion of program offerings, as well as attracting high quality faculty members.
Abu Dhabi University’s Al-Ain campus has grown from 275 students when it opened its doors in 2003, to a population today of 980. An ever-expanding range of both undergraduate and graduate programs are now offered locally by ADU, with admissions in both Fall and Spring annually.
