ALBAWABA - Mexican authorities are investigating after a decomposed body was discovered inside a truck parked near the training facilities used by Iran’s national team during the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Tijuana.

The body was located inside a gray Toyota SUV in a shopping center parking lot across from Estadio Caliente, where the Iranian squad has been training since arriving in the city earlier this week, Agence France-Presse said.

Reports say the police apparently became suspicious of the vehicle during a normal patrol and opened it up for investigation. When they did, cops encountered a strong stink and found a body within the rear cargo area of the vehicle wrapped in a black bag.

Forensic teams went to the spot, looked over the remains and gathered evidence and then later moved the body for further analysis.

Preliminary reports revealed that the victim had evident evidence of violence, and the death could be related to a criminal conduct, the Tijuana Prosecutor's Office said. No arrests have been reported and authorities have not published the victim's identification.

The incident took place less than a mile from Iran’s training field and the hotel where the group from the team was staying for the World Cup. Officials have not, however, suggested any link between the find and the Iranian national team or the competition.

Authorities continue to investigate the case and determine the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death.
