The seventh Arab Forum for Telecommunications and Internet, which convened last week in Marrakech, under the patronage of the Moroccan King Mohammed VI, ended with a series of recommendations aiming at the reinforcement of the role of the Arab world in this field.
<i>AlBayane</i> reports that the participants agreed that the Arab countries need to have a strong presence at the WSIS summit, scheduled to take place on November in Tunisia. They agreed also on the need to open the telecommunications markets in the Arab world to new technologies of information and communication. In addition, it was agreed to reduce taxes and customs duties on means of communication, for the benefit of the Arab masses. Finally, the participants also emphasized that the right to communicate should be viewed as a fundamental human right.
