Iraqi police and US soldiers arrested 15 people, including four thought to be Iranian, in the suicide attacks against Shiite Muslim pilgrims in Baghdad and Karbala, an official said Wednesday.
On Tuesday, several explosions rocked major Shiite shrines in Karbala and in the capital where thousands of pilgrims were gathered for the Ashoura religious festival.
Authorities were trying to sort out the number of dead in Tuesday's near-simultaneous explosions at Shiite holy shrines.
Meanwhile, the American count of the dead was revised down, from 143 to 117, a top occupation official said Wednesday.
However, Iraq's Health Ministry said 185 people were killed, and some unofficial Iraqi death totals were as high as 230. Estimates of the wounded ranged from 300 to over 400. (Albawaba.com)
