ALBAWABA - The name of the Syrian actress Mona Wassef has been trending online after the robbery of her house that caused a wide fuss, especially after reports that the thief is a family member.
Syrian authorities have arrested Khawla al-Barghouth, a Syrian-American citizen, on charges of stealing from the home of her mother-in-law, the renowned actress Mona Wassef.
Criminal Security indicated that Wassef has filed a lawsuit against her daughter-in-law after she reported a robbery inside her house.
An informed source emphasized that the arrest has no political dimensions and is not related to al-Barghouth's activity on social media platforms.
The source confirmed that the case is purely criminal and does not fall under the category of "political arrest."

Mona Wassef's son responds to his wife's detention:
Ammar Abdel Hamid, son of Mona Wassef, affirmed the family's full support for his wife, Khawla al-Barghouth, in his first comment on her arrest, which has sparked widespread controversy on social media.
He said that the entire family, "from the oldest to the youngest," has stood with Khawla from the very beginning and indicated that they do not know who "falsely accused" her, nor who leaked details of her situation to the media and social media.
The son of Mona Wassef further explained that the US State Department has been monitoring the case and communicating with relevant authorities in Syria since the initial hours. He noted that the family had previously remained silent to avoid any political repercussions or further divisions among the public, especially given the way Khawla's name was being circulated in what he described as an offensive manner.
Abdel Hamid added that while they do not see any direct political motives behind the case, they believe there is a procedural matter concerning the rights of every Syrian citizen that warrants attention. He added that the arrest "does not seem justified" to them, and that the prolonged detention has contributed to escalating the controversy and opened the door to rumors and speculation.
