ALBAWABA - Israel Hayom reported on Saturday that hackers from the Gaza Strip have launched a large-scale hacking against several well-known Israeli websites. The hackers have posted highly charged messages on these websites and have even taken some of them offline completely.

The newspaper said the attack happened on a number of well-known sports websites, such as those of the Israeli Premier League, the basketball teams Hapoel Jerusalem, Maccabi Tel Aviv, and Hapoel Tel Aviv, and the Israeli Premier League management.

Attackers changed the normal content on the sites they broke into to a big headline that said "Time is running out," followed by a statement that said:

"This message comes from the heart of Gaza and the heart of the resistance that has never given up."  People will only respond to the killings you do with defiance, guns, and staying strong until the end.

The tone of the letter was hostile, and there were hints that the hackers might be connected to a Palestinian rebel group.

Websites were taken down.
Because of the hack, some websites went offline and showed only dead white pages as of Saturday morning.

Security experts say that this operation is part of a growing wave of cyberwarfare by Palestinian resistance groups that are trying to mess up and change things on the home front in Israel.

This latest event seems to show a change in targets, focused on sports fans and the general athletic community, a group that these kinds of operations haven't been aimed at before.  People who have seen it say that the pick shows a plan to make cyber operations have psychological and cultural effects in areas other than the military and politics.
