French President Nicolas Sarkozy has that "peace between Syria and Israel is possible," indicating fresh efforts by France and Turkey to resume talks on the Syrian-Israeli peace track. Sarkozy stated, in a speech delivered to French ambassadors at the Elysee Palace on Wednesday evening, that "peace between Israel and Syria is possible," pointing out that "France is working with Turkey in order to search for an agreement between the two sides."

The peace process on the Syrian track has been suffering from a stalemate since the cessation of indirect talks between Syria and Israel under the auspices of Turkey following the Israeli aggression on Gaza in late 2008. Sarkozy indicated that he instructed Ambassador Jean-Claude Cousseran to "carry out his mission to move the Syrian-Israeli peace talks forward."
