In reaction to media reports and legal claims about his huge wealth, the former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak, has submitted financial disclosures to the relevant judicial authorities, according to law. The legal representative of Mubarak said the latter had been committed to taking responsibility to provide financial disclosure in a timely manner according to the law.
Mubarak's legal representative categorically denied what was reported and published by some media outlets in Egypt and abroad over the last few weeks regarding the value of his fortune or the existence of stocks or properties abroad. All this false information damages his reputation and integrity following 62 years of service for the nation, the legal representative said.
High-level Egyptian judicial sources conveyed that the prosecution had not asked the United States or European countries or other countries to freeze the accounts of Mubarak family, pointing out that some of those states announced that they had frozen the assets by their own following the departure of the former president.
This came at a time when Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Shafik, said that the follow-up investigation team regarding the wealth of the outgoing President and his family is in the jurisdiction of the armed forces, not the government.
Meanwhile, Abdel Meguid Mahmoud, the Egyptian Public Prosecutor ordered to investigate the authenticity of a document presented to him regarding a deposit owned by Mubarak in a Swiss bank of 19 tons of platinum (estimated at about US$ 15 billion.)
