Three people were killed Tuesday in two separate car bombings that targeted police facilities in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, a security official said.

"Two policemen and one civilian were killed and three civilians injured when militants blew up their explosive-laden vehicles outside two police facilities in the Bab al-Beid and Mashahda districts in western Mosul," police Cap. Taha al-Mashhdani told Anadolu Agency.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks.

Iraq has seen a marked uptick of violence in recent months.

While the army battles militants in the country's western and northern provinces, other areas of Iraq have seen bombings, assassinations and attacks on both civilians and security personnel.
