Lebanon's Premier Saad Hariri on Tuesday voiced support for police intelligence chief Col. Wissam al-Hasan and said leaked information "does not serve justice. Speaking to reporters, the Lebanese leader said: "We don't comment on anything that is not officially released by the (international) tribunal." "I believe that the leaked information does not serve the course of justice," he said.
On Monday, he Canadian Broadcasting Corp. (CBC) published the results of a months-long investigation conducted by its staff relying on interviews with multiple sources from inside the UN inquiry into ex-PM Rafik Hariri's assassination in 2005. When asked Tuesday about al-Hasan whose name was mentioned in the CBC report on Hizbullah's alleged involvement in his father's assassination, Hariri said: "I fully trust Col. al-Hasan."
The Canadian investigation said that Col. al-Hasan was considered by some U.N. secret investigators as a "potential suspect," pointing out that he oversaw security for Hariri at the time of the murder but had taken the day off to take an examination at a university.
