Hamdeen Sabahi has vowed to protect Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi if he is elected president.

The former army chief, who led the removal of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013, recently revealed he had survived two assassination attempts.

"I fully respect my election rival, Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, for his role in the 30 June revolution," Sabahi told Channel One. "I vow to protect his life if I am elected president."

Sabahi added: "Discrimination between Muslims and Christians, Sunni and Shia, women and men, or between Upper Egyptians and those from the Delta must end. I will establish a commission to fight discrimination."

The founder of the Popular Front repeated his earlier pledge to amend the protest law.

The Nasserite also discussed his economic programme.

It was Sabahi's third televised interview in less than a week.
