Daraa's just one of several points of contention during Syria's bloody civil war.
Syrian rebels of the Southern Front coalition with al-Nusra Front late June launched an offensive on the city, the birthplace of the revolution that's mostly controlled by the regime. Large-scale attacks against government forces began June 25.
Other than that, not much news has been coming out of Daraa so it's hard to know exactly what's happening. Without journalists or human rights groups on the ground, most media surrounding the fights are run by one side or the other. Iranian state news reported the Syrian army has killed six "terrorists" in Daraa's northwestern countryside of al-Gharyiat.
