There's a lot of players on the battlefield in Aleppo, but one thing hasn't changed since the beginning — despite the tangled web of fighters inside Syria's largest city, civilians are still the ones hit the hardest.

According to the findings of a report published by Aleppo-based monitoring group, Syrian Institute for Justice and Accountability (JUSTICE) last month, civlian deaths trump those of militants by a landslide. Out of 317 recorded deaths in July, 310 were civilians.

These stats are staggering on their own. But those are just the shellings — the city is being hit by US-coalition strikes, militant rockets and the ever-present Syrian government barrel bombs.

The battlefield is a complex place in Aleppo, which is why air attacks are coming from a lot of different sources. In July, JUSTICE documented shellings from air-to-surface missiles, barrel bombs and short range missiles, among others.

The next problem for civilians is the site of these attacks. A majority of almost 400 attack sites recorded were in residential areas, proving that while there may be plenty of militant distinctions on the ground, the shellings inside Aleppo aren't hitting anyone harder than civlians.

Here's the full statistics from JUSTICE, via Reddit.
