From having emotional inconsistencies to keeping ourselves busy to stay distracted, here are a few behavioural red flags to know.

Replaying and dwelling in negative thoughts and getting into the loop of it refers to ruminating. We are often stuck in this vicious cycle of thinking, replaying, getting back to the trauma and playing the worst-case scenarios. " We all get negative or intrusive thoughts sometimes. But it is your responsibility to determine what you will continue to dwell on. Let this fact bring a sense of empowerment, rather than judgment toward yourself," wrote Therapist Carrie Howard.

We tend to downplay our issues and concerns, even if they are making us anxious or affecting us hugely.

We tend to avoid or suppress negative emotions with a forced positive attitude. This is a defense mechanism for staying in denial.

Even when we care deeply about certain things, we pretend to not show our emotions or express a lack of opinion.

We like to keep ourselves busy with a lot of work in order to stay distracted from facing our difficult emotions.

In order to avoid dealing with negative emotions, we start to regularly forget about the conversations or situations.

Emotional inconsistencies in our behavioural patterns are major red flags to beware of – they show that we are not expressing ourselves properly.
