Thousands of mourners gathered in south Beirut on Tuesday for the funeral of Grand Ayatollah Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah. Lebanon marked a national day of mourning for Fadlallah who died in hospital on Sunday at the age of 75 of internal bleeding, AFP reported.
The procession left from Fadlallah's home in Harek Hreik to the nearby Hassanayn mosque for the burial. President Michel Suleiman gave his condolences to Fadlallah son, Sayed Ali Fdalallah, at the mosque. Ahmad Jannati, a representative of Iran's supreme leader, as well as Ali al-Adeeb, an aid to the Iraqi prime minister, attended the funeral along with other prominent foreign officials.
