Syrian President Bashar Assad said on Monday that his country has agreed with Lebanon on the demarcation of the maritime boundaries.
"Lebanon and Syria agreed on the demarcation of maritime boundaries in order to determine the right to gas fields for each side in the future," Assad was quoted as saying.
The Syrian leader added that Damascus does not attach high hopes to the peace process at this time, stressing at the same time Syria insists on the Turkish role while other mediators can assist in this matter. Assad noted that Syria does not count much on the American role in the process, saying that U.S. President Barack Obama is "restricted at home and his interests are to support other countries. America today is not capable of running the peace process, but others can and the USA can come with its weight in the final stages to ensure the peace agreement". He added that the Obama administration sent some positive signs for good faith in dealing with Syria, but added that these signs are not enough in this relationship.
