Shabaan arrested for not paying taxes

A Cairo appeals court has convicted Egyptian folk singer Shabaan Abd Al Raheem to a jail sentence of one year and a fine of 250 thousand Egyptian pounds for not paying his due taxes.

 

The court stated that the fine Shabaan will pay is the amount he owes in taxes for concerts he held throughout the past year.

 

During his trial, Shabaan appeared in court accompanied by his lawyer and negotiated with the judge in order to give him a chance to settle the matter with the Egyptian taxation department to avoid the being arrested. The court agreed to give Shabaan a specific date to pay all owed taxes by .
