The sale of land and water resources to rich Gulf states under neoliberal economic policies has disempowered Egyptians and added to the coffers of the rich.
Through a series of highly complex investments, Gulf states - particularly the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia - have profited from land and water in Egypt’s Nile Valley whilst the local population do not see rewards from land or labor.
