ALBAWABA - After 15 years, Marvel's Ghost Rider is finally returning to the big screen with Ryan Gosling taking the lead. The Canadian actor took to the stage at San Diego Comic Con 2026 to announce the upcoming movie.

Ghost Rider, slated for a 2028 release, will be directed by Shawn Levy, who is best known for Stranger Things, the Night at the Museum franchise, and Deadpool & Wolverine. According to Variety, Levy and Gosling also worked together on the upcoming "Star Wars: Starfighter" movie.

The closest thing Ghost Rider fans recently got was Gabriel Luna's Robbie Reyes version of the beloved comic book character in Marvel's "Agents of SHIELD" with reports indicating that a series was scheduled but was scrapped back in 2019.

Gosling took to Comic Con's stage and said, "Wow. Is this really happening? As you know, this is a character I've wanted to play for a very long time."

Levy also said after talking on stage, "I’m having the greatest flashback vibes here, because I was here two years ago when we showed ‘Deadpool & Wolverine. I’ll never forget that night, because I was introduced to the greatest fans."

He added, "Gosling is the absolute sh*t. I say that with tremendous respect. We spent a lot of time last year making ‘Starfighter,’ and the opportunity as Ryan started talking about this character, I was like, ‘Bro, let’s ride.’ We’ll see you in 2028!"

Excited fans flooded social media ahead of the movie's 2028 release date and wrote:

"RYAN GOSLING AS GHOST RIDER??? Shawn Levy directing??? This is the best casting decision Marvel has made in YEARS. Real question: Who should be the villain? Mephisto or Blackheart?"

"Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider? That has serious potential."

"Wow.. for real? Nicolas Cage was great, but I can't wait to see Ryan Gosling's version of Ghost Rider though."

Many also said Ryan Gosling is the perfect match to play as Johnny Blaze.

The Marvel comic book character was previously played by American actor and film producer Nicolas Cage in 2007 and 2011. Both movies received mixed reactions and reviews from fans and critics alike. However, many still reminisce about them due to nostalgia and the lack of Ghost Rider appearances in Marvel's present cinematic universe, despite several calls for a movie or series.
