Huawei, a leading telecom solutions provider, today launched and demonstrated a series of end-to-end convergent WiMAX/LTE solutions at the 2011 WiMAX/LTE Forum.

These solutions included the cutting-edge SingleRAN WiMAX/LTE solution, the B8200—the world’s first WiMAX/HSPA dual-mode handset equipped with Android 2.2, the E398—the world’s first commercial LTE TDD/FDD dual-mode USB dongle, and the E392—the world’s first LTE TDD/FDD/UMTS/GSM multi-mode USB dongle.

The common refrain from operators, vendors, organizations, media, and analysts that attended the conference is that TDD (WiMAX/LTE) technologies are now being driven toward convergence.

The Huawei end to end solutions and products that were launched all address this move toward convergence. The SingleRAN WiMAX/LTE solution features a co-platform of hardware and software, software upgrading, and parallel transmitting in dual-mode. In this solution, remote radio units (RRU) are able to support dual modes of WiMAX and LTE TDD at the same time. Operators can flexibly deploy multi-mode networks according to different scenarios to meet the trends of evolution and convergence. With these advantages, the SingleRAN WiMAX/LTE solution can effectively reduce the multi-technology deployment risk and protect operators’ investments.

Huawei’s B8200, the world’s first WiMAX/HSPA dual-mode handset running the Android 2.2 operating system, is able to support multiple modes and bands, such as UMTS 900/2100MHz, GSM/GPRS/EDGE 900/1800MHz, as well as WiMAX 2.5GHz access. WiMAX devices will be greatly diversified when this handset goes to market.

Given the interoperability of and the interworking requirement between single mode networks and multi-mode networks, Huawei launched the E398, the world’s first commercial LTE TDD/FDD USB dongle. This elegant, roadster-shaped concept product is able to reach peak data rates of up to 100Mb/s.

The E392, the world’s first LTE TDD/FDD/UMTS/GSM multi-mode USB dongle, can support global roaming and can easily switch between different networks. It will be commercially launched on a large scale during the second half of 2011, which is a further indication of the industry’s shift toward convergence.

“Choosing the SingleRAN solution to build convergent mobile networks and adopting multi-mode device solutions have been validated by the global industry chain,” said Deng Taihua, the president of Huawei WiMAX/TDS/LTE networks. “Huawei’s convergent end-to-end solutions can assist operators avoid the risks of technology choice and network evolution, maximize the value of key assets, release the pressure from the rapid increase of mobile broadband traffic and users, and help realize business success.”
